Tooth-Colored Fillings

What is Tooth-Colored Fillings?

A filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, cracks, or fractures. At Alexandria Smiles Dentistry, we use modern, tooth-colored composite resin fillings. They blend seamlessly with your natural tooth, unlike older silver amalgam fillings.

Ideal Candidates

Patients who have cavities, small chips, or minor fractures in their teeth. We also frequently replace old, failing metal fillings with our stronger, more aesthetic tooth-colored composite material.

Key Benefits

  • Invisibly blends with your natural tooth color
  • Bonds directly to the tooth structure, providing extra support
  • Requires less removal of healthy tooth structure than metal fillings
  • Contains no mercury
  • Durable for everyday chewing

How Does It Work?

First, we ensure you are completely numb and comfortable. We then carefully remove the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth. The area is cleaned and prepared, and the tooth-colored composite material is applied in layers. We use a special light to instantly harden each layer, then shape and polish the final filling so your bite feels perfectly natural.

Recovery & Aftercare

Your lips and gums may remain numb for a few hours after the appointment. You may experience slight sensitivity to hot and cold temperatures for a few days, but this should subside quickly. You can eat normally once the numbness wears off.
