What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding is a fast, conservative cosmetic procedure where a tooth-colored composite resin material is applied to the tooth and hardened with a special light. The resin bonds directly to the tooth, restoring or improving a person's smile seamlessly.

Ideal Candidates

Bonding is an excellent, cost-effective option for patients who need to repair minor cosmetic flaws: chipped or cracked teeth, small gaps between teeth, slightly misshapen teeth, or exposed tooth roots caused by receding gums.

Key Benefits

  • Completed in just one quick visit
  • Very little, if any, removal of natural tooth enamel
  • Often requires no anesthesia or drilling
  • Highly aesthetic and natural-looking
  • More affordable than porcelain veneers or crowns

How Does It Work?

The procedure is usually completed in a single visit and often requires no anesthesia. We select a resin shade that perfectly matches your natural teeth. The surface of the tooth is gently roughened and a conditioning liquid is applied. The putty-like resin is molded onto the tooth, smoothed into the desired shape, and hardened with a curing light. Finally, we polish it to blend in flawlessly.

Recovery & Aftercare

There is absolutely no downtime or recovery period. You can return to work or school immediately, and eat and drink as normal. If no anesthesia was used, you won't even have a numb lip.

Frequently Asked Questions

With good care, dental bonding can last between 3 to 10 years before it may need to be touched up or replaced.

Yes, the composite resin is slightly more porous than natural tooth enamel or porcelain. Avoiding smoking and limiting coffee, tea, and red wine will help prevent staining.

Bonding is fantastic for minor repairs and is more affordable, but it is not as strong or stain-resistant as porcelain veneers. We can help you decide which is best for your goals.

Not at all. Because we are usually just adding material to the surface of the tooth, it is completely painless.
